Homeopathy is an effective system of healing, which helps the body to heal itself. It sees symptoms of ill-health as expressions of imbalance in the whole person. Only by treating the individual as a whole can we hope to restore optimum health. Well-being is not simply the removal of symptoms, it means experiencing a sense of optimism, freedom and joy of life.
Homeopathy was developed in the late eighteenth century by a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, and has been widely used throughout the world for over 200 years. It is based on the principle of treating ‘like with like’. As an example, someone experiencing hay fever with watering eyes and a profuse watery discharge from the nose might be given Allium Cepa, a remedy made from onions. Homeopathic remedies are prepared by a process of ‘potentisation’ and usually given in tablet form.
During the first consultation, a homeopath will ask about your main complaints and how you experience them. In order to select the most suitable homeopathic remedy to ‘match’ your individual symptoms, she will also need to find out more general information about you, including your past medical history, your current situation and lifestyle and your general levels of energy. This first consultation usually lasts about an hour.
Homeopaths working at the Complementary Health Care Clinic are all Registered with The Society of Homeopaths and agree to practise in accordance with The Society’s Code of Ethics and Practice. Anything you say will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Homeopathy can safely be used alongside other forms of treatment, both conventional and complementary. It can be used in a wide variety of situations, including ‘acute’ conditions such as colds, sore throats and toothache and also in more ‘chronic’ illnesses, including arthritis, eczema, asthma, anxiety and mild depression.
