Nutritional Therapy

What is Nutritional Therapy and how does it work?

Nutritional therapy is a complementary therapy frequently used alongside conventional medicine. It encompasses both diet and lifestyle. The role of nutritional therapy is to provide the body with the best possible nutrients to optimise health, understanding that the substances we take into our bodies sustain, nourish and replenish us.

Nutritional therapists normally deal with specific cases (as below – see testimonials). However, it can also benefit those with no specific complaint, considering diet in optimising overall health for now and the future. By optimising our diets we can encourage the body’s natural healing process.

Today more and more emerges about how closely our diets are linked to our health, proving that what we eat is fundamental to our wellbeing.

Nutritional therapy takes into account the fact that each person is different and thus needs to be treated as such. Nutritional therapists work by assessing a client through both clinical observation, as well as comprehensive analysis of current health status, previous health and family history. Such factors including any previous and current medication, operations, stress and activity levels are also further details which would be collected in order to gain a clearer picture of health. Use of diagnostic tests may be used in order to gain a clearer insight into any underlying health concern/s, if this specific tool is deemed necessary.

Your therapist will then work closely with you to devise a new eating regime which is both realistic and achievable. Supplements may be used in conjunction with this. These can be used to correct any underlying imbalances and can serve as a therapeutic tool, helping to aid the body’s natural healing process.

Testimonials

‘Before I had my first appointment with Naomi I had been suffering from chronic stomach pains which had significantly affected my life. Numerous doctors had failed to provide any help and just labelled my problem as IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome). Naomi gave me personal advice about diet and supplements, and a sympathetic understanding of my condition. My symptoms have now significantly reduced and I know lead a happier more confident life!’ Emma (29)

'I always thought I ate fairly healthily but found it difficult to lose weight and suffered from a number of minor health problems. I have read a number of books on healthy eating, but many of them either conflict with each other or are not relevant to my own situation. It was so helpful having Naomi look objectively at my health and diet. She enabled me to see that I was missing some essential nutrients that were affecting my immunity to infection and general wellbeing. I have made a number of changes following Naomi's advice and am now much more aware of the things that are a problem for me. I have lost some weight and have noticed other benefits such as my nails being stronger, having been brittle for years.' Claire (48)
