Yoga imparts strength, flexibility and balance. Though the progression of movements and emphasis on breathing control it encourages peace of mind.
The practice of yoga is centuries-old, developed in India and now practised world-wide. Yoga works on the body with a holistic approach, a blend of physical exercises – postures, and relaxing the mind. Yoga promotes health by gradually increasing the range of motion in the joints, keeping the body mobile. It helps to maintain a well-aligned body posture, working muscles by stretching and strengthening them. It is non-competitive and can be taken up at any age, whatever your level of health.
The classes are open to all, the Monday lunchtime session a gentle one, to calm and relax; the Tuesday evening class will energise with some dynamic flowing pose work as well as relaxation.
It is a good idea not to eat much for a couple of hours before the class as your body will be digesting food and may not appreciate being stretched at the same time. Any comfortable clothes can be worn, we will work barefoot but socks are handy for when lying in relaxation; mats are provided.
