Hot Stone Massage – this ancient therapy utilises stones heated in water to massage the body. The hardness, shape and weight of the stones used allows the therapist to address specific areas with deeper pressure or more detailed work. Basalt is generally the stone of choice due to its volcanic properties.
Stones are laid on the body though towels to impart heat at various influential points – such as the chakra centres – and they are also held by the therapist in the palm of the hand and used to perform massage with heated oils.
It is important to note that an authentic hot stone massage is not merely the use of the stones to provide a relaxing pamper though the gliding motion of the stones, but to utilise the stones as an additional tool with which to deliver light, medium or deep pressure.
Hot stone massage can be used to great effect in the treatment of muscular aches, pains, and strains, rheumatic and arthritic conditions, multiple sclerosis, polymyalgia rheumatica, fibromyalgia, back & neck pain, and insomnia. It helps to build and enhance circulation through expanding reduces stress, anxiety, tension and to some extent, depression.
Hot stone massage can be combined with Aromatherapy to great effect.
Aromatherapy – this involves the use of volatile plant extracts known as essential oils, mainly in holistic treatment through massage although the oils can also be administered though other means such as compresses, carrier oils, and creams. The intention behind the use of aromatherapy is to improve physical and mental health, and the oils are often used to enhance “normal” holistic massage. Substantial amounts of research show that essential oils, when applied to either the skin or inhaled, are absorbed into the bloodstream and metabolised into the body. While inducing mood change, the essential oils can also effect brain wave activity – creating with relaxing or stimulating effects. Think rosemary (great for helping to remember things whilst studying) versus sweet orange (fantastic for relaxation & promoting positive thought).
The aromatherapy treatments that San is offering are a relaxing 60 or 90 minute indulgence. Combined with a massage this is a sensory and soothing experience, ideal for stressed out bods needing an hour of massage in peace and calm.
Reflexology – most of the people I speak to on a daily basis tend to think of reflexology as a great foot massage – but it is so much more. The treatment you will receive will differ from therapist to therapist, in some cases massage may be included, and in others you may have a light touch treatment. Reflexology as a how is a relaxing treatment on the feet which can help a vast number of health issues from achy shoulders through to the emotional stresses caused by massive life changes such as bereavement and divorce. How does it do this you must be wondering? In the hands and feet (yes, reflex is done on the hands too!) there are reflex zones and areas which correspond to all areas of the body. They have been mapped and diagrams produced – the right foot corresponds to the right side of the body, and the left foot to the left side. As this is a natural and holistic therapy, not only the symptoms are treated, but also the cause of any symptoms, and it’s simply divinely decadent to have 90 minutes of reflexology and massage!
Holistic/Therapeutic Massage – the treatment and practice of manipulation and sometimes mobilisation of the bodies soft tissues with physical & functional (IE mechanical/medical) and occasionally psychological goals.
Massage will involve the use of pressure, tension, motion and/or vibration done manually on ligaments, skin, joints and other connective tissue – including lymphatic vessels and the organs of the GI tract. It is applied with hands, forearms, fingers and elbows.
The treatment on available for this buy one get one free offer is a standard therapeutic massage. Of course there are levels of “normal” and at The Complementary Health Care Clinic we do not offer your general run of the mill beauty treatment, rather, “normal” for us is a very high calibre treatment. The therapists at our clinic are extremely well trained professionals and are able to treat your muscular problems, issues and injuries through the therapeutic paradigm of healing touch.
Emergency appointments are always available.
Indian Head Massage – based on the Ayruvedic system of natural health, Indian head massage works on the shoulders, neck, head and sometimes the face. It aims to relieve the stress and pressure from everyday life that accumulates in the soft tissues, ligaments, tendons and joints of these areas.
It is particularly enjoyed by office workers in their lunchbreak as it is most often performed fully clothed and without oil. However, it is also utilised for particular complaints, including headaches, migraines & sinusitis, stress, tension and fatigue. It works by relieving muscular tension, increasing joint & muscular mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders whilst increasing oxygen to the tissues though increased circulation and the manual removal of toxins through the breakdown of knots and adhesions.
The experience is deeply relaxing and calming; it leaves you feeling energised and revitalised – able to concentrate better in a peaceful space.
Natural Facial is not just a beauty treatment, but a blissful experience for body, mind and spirit. It leaves your skin feeling purified, and you feeling relaxed and uplifted. It cleanses your skin leaving it feeling more toned and with a rejuvenated appearance.
The session will start with a consultation and skin analysis, and a bespoke treatment plan will be designed to suit your individual needs. All treatments include cleaning, toning, moisturising and massage using completely natural skincare products to suit your skin type, and to promote healing and relaxation. These are organic where possible, fairly traded and not tested on animals. Nor do they contain parabens, SLS, synthetic colours or fragrances. On the 2nd treatment, additional time will allow a masque to be applied, and during the relaxation period, either a hand and arm, or leg and foot treatment (such as aromatherapy massage or reflexology) can be performed.
These treatments relieve stress, eyestrain, muscular soreness and tension in face, neck and shoulders. They also help to tone facial muscles, improve lymphatic drainage, reduce puffiness and unblock sinuses. It has been found to reduce hayfever symptoms, headaches and in some cases, facial nerve pain. As the treatments are also superimposed over reflex points, the whole body benefits from a relaxing and healing face and ear reflexology treatment.
A truly serene experience.
