Georgina Fisher BSc (Hons) MTI ITEC HFR is the Practice Manager of the Complementary Health Care Clinic, and acting registrar for The Homeopathic College of East Anglia. In October 2006 she decided to become a student yet again and began the four year part time course to become a professionally qualified Homeopath.
Following a busy and stimulating weekend at college we have homework of an asthma case and to use a new method (to us) – the physical generals approach, which is different to the classical method in the way that you repertorise the presenting symptoms.
With Classical Homeopathy, mental and emotional symptoms are considered the most important, followed by physical symptoms- generals and then particulars. We have studied the Classical method in depth first but now are learning the Physical generals’ method. This considers the general physical symptoms first – an example would be anything you could say “I” about – i.e. I feel generally tired today, or I ache all over. Then come the physical particulars which are most things that you can say “my” about – my foot hurts, my head aches etc. This is a really useful method to utilise when treating a patient who really does not have any emotional or mental issues to address – in a young child maybe.
To my interest, we also learnt about worming. The methods used vary from homeopath to homeopath, but Cina 30c can be a very useful remedy for this problem. I am particularly interested in this to use for my cats. We were all surprised to find out that legally only vets are allowed to treat animals – the homeopath is unable to recommend or prescribe for your animal, however you are allowed to request specific medication and give it to your animal and you are allowed to buy over the counter medication for the animal. I shall hopefully be treating all future cases of worms myself… and with three beautiful kittens (2 gingers toms and a black girl) that are now 10 days old I should imagine that this will be soon!
As a small note if you are looking for a new cat then contact Alison who runs Castaways (in New Costessey) on 01603 743941 or 07811 640022 or look at www.castawaysrescue.co.uk. Alison currently has a lovely playful fluffy tabby and white male called Spike – he’s sooo friendly but has to sniff you thoroughly before you’re allowed to play with him! I can’t forget the beautiful black girl called Harmony either, but I’m just not allowed anymore cats! There is also half-feral called Angelina who is expecting, so kittens are on the way shortly. If you know of any cats that are living rough, or have been abandoned Alison will take them in, care for them and find them excellent homes. Obviously this is a charity, so any donations are gratefully received as many cats require veterinary treatment and medication before re-homing.
