Mindfulness is a particular way of being aware of and accepting whatever you are experiencing in the present moment, whether it is a thought, feeling or physical sensation. It is a way of “coming home to yourself” and can be very helpful if stress is causing you to feel all over the place or as if life is a constant rush of one thing after another.
The Living Well with Stress course teaches a range of Mindfulness-based approaches to managing stress including; breath awareness, body awareness and relaxation. Mindful movement, Mindfulness in daily life and of course Mindfulness meditation.
Throughout the course you will be learning and practising three meditations; the body scan, mindfulness of breathing and kindly awareness. Mindfulness meditation is simple and gentle. There is a continuous emphasis on being kind to yourself and so you wont be asked to sit in any way or for any length of time that causes discomfort. There is always something to pay attention to in the meditations and noticing that the mind wanders is an important part of it so don’t worry about not being able to stay focused.
The Living Well With Stress course can help you to:
- notice when stress begins to build and show you how to prevent it spiralling
- see the bigger picture and avoid feeling overwhelmed
- understand how rumination increases stress and learn how to side step it
- appreciate the pleasant moments by being fully present for them
