Help yourself and your animals during Fireworks Season
Basic guidelines to help your animals through this often traumatic evening (or month?) are to provide them with company and thus reassurance – don’t abandon them in the back room to cope alone. If this is not something that you would usually do then this atypical behaviour may distress them further and stroking and holding, or maybe even just being in your company will create a soothing setting and produce a feeling of safety.
Do draw the curtains and blinds in order to create a sheltered environment, with small animals cover their cages – mask the bright flashes of light.
Jan de Vries’ Flower Essences for shock and trauma are great for your animals during the firework season, and will help calm the down heartened doggy, cranky cat, humble hamster, raging rabbit and hysterical horse as well as providing relief from terror.
Animals, like humans, can suffer with emotional problems and personality imbalances.
Unable to verbally express how they feel or understand what is happening to them, their reactions to difficulties may be communicated through uncharacteristic behaviour e.g. fear, aggression, destructiveness etc.
Flower Essences are natural products made from wild plants. They may be used to calm the emotions, lift spirits and bring out the individual's full potential. These wonderful essences are hand prepared from the fresh flowers of plants and trees by a local company called Sun Essences. Fresh spring water is used to capture the essence of these fresh blooms which are captured on clear sunny days when the plants are in their peak state and most vibrant.
As the Jan de Vries tinctures include lots of different essences they are able to provide relief from a range of conditions. Animal lovers will know how the personalities of pets are often as diverse as the human variety! Some are nervous, some get angry – but exposed to loud noises and flashes of light, most become disturbed and exhibit varying symptoms of emotional distress such as shaking, trembling, and freezing, running in circles, barking/mewling/kicking or even biting.
We would recommend in these circumstances the Timid, Highly Strung and Emergency essences, and occasionally the Over Dominance and even Separation essences may be of use.
If you have completed a Reiki training course and are able to offer hands on healing to your pet you will find it very effective in any of these situations and animals have been found to respond to it beautifully.
For a Homeopathic approach for ourselves and young children, who are too young to understand these sudden loud and intrusive bangs there are remedies that calm fear, deal with shock and bring relief. Think of the remedy Borax in particular for fear of sudden noise; Aconite for that real deep fear and Arg Nit for anticipatory fear at the beginning of those noisy evenings. Chamomilla 200c will often pop a stressed child into a deep and relaxing sleep and the whole frightening experience can be avoided by all! Enjoy a safe and happy fireworks event.
